Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital as a precaution after becoming unwell while speaking to Michael Owen before kick-off ahead of Manchester United’s win over Liverpool on Sunday.
Michael Owen said Sir Alex Ferguson’s tone was “snarky” hours before the former Manchester United manager was taken to hospital. Ferguson, 84, spoke to Owen for “40 minutes” before heading to Old Trafford to watch United’s Premier League game against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
However, before kick-off he became unwell and the Scot called an ambulance and was taken to hospital as a precaution. Mirror Football understands that Ferguson has quickly improved his health and is in good spirits.
Now Owen has revealed how he spoke to Ferguson just before his former boss was replaced. The former United striker told talkSPORT on Wednesday:
“We talk about football and we talk about horses. Like I said, he has horses here (Manor House Stables). Most Saturday mornings he calls me and we go through all the horses that day and share what we know and so on.”

“That might actually happen and I might run his horse at Chester Racecourse on Friday, so I’ve been talking to him regularly and he’s been really nice and he was as sharp as a harness as usual.
“We used to talk a lot about Scottish football and what was going on there, so it was understandably a huge shock to hear that he was taken in unwell the next day, but we hope it’s not too serious.”
Ferguson, who regularly attends United’s home matches, retired nearly 13 years ago and has spent much of that time as an ambassador for the club. Supporters chanted his name around Old Trafford when the news broke ahead of the 3-2 win.
Interim manager Michael Carrick, who played under Ferguson from 2006 until his retirement in 2013, said at the post-match press conference: “At this point we don’t know the latest. We heard about it before the game.”
“All I can say is that I was very affected by it. We just hope he’s OK. We don’t know the latest situation, but we wish him well, we wish him the best and of course we’re thinking of him. And I hope the result will hear that from him and give him a good boost.”
