Jamie Carragher says he’s sorry to Luis Enrique in live interview (Image: CBS)
Jamie Carragher sheepishly apologized on live television after supporting Borussia Dortmund against Luis Enrique’s PSG team two years ago. The Liverpool legend previously revealed that Enrique refused to speak to him and CBS Sports due to the incident, but he took the opportunity to apologize after PSG reached the Champions League final for the second successive year. They drew 1-1 away with Bayern Munich and won 6-5 on aggregate, setting up a final clash with Arsenal in Budapest later this month.
After the match, there were some farcical scenes, such as CBS, where Carragher was acting as a commentator, unexpectedly interviewed Enrique. As the CBS team quizzed PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the Spaniard appeared from the left and was greeted with cheers from a panel that included Thierry Henry, Mika Richards and Clint Dempsey.
But before speaking about the match, Carragher took the opportunity to apologize for his actions two years ago, which led to Enrique ignoring his CBS interview.
During the semi-final first leg between Dortmund and PSG, the Liverpool icon watched the match alongside the German club’s supporters, downing pints and even wearing a Dortmund scarf.
Enrique immediately refused an interview with CBS after Carragher was spotted wearing the opposing team’s colors after the 1-0 defeat.
Two years later, the pundit used the opportunity to mend relations with the Spaniard after a good-natured rivalry ignited.
“Lewis, I would like to apologize for my actions in the semi-final in Dortmund. I was wearing the Dortmund scarf and as we all know, sometimes after a few drinks I can get a little carried away. So I apologize.”
“We really loved your team. We really enjoyed watching them perform last year and the last two years in the Champions League. Congratulations again on making it to the final, well done.”
Enrique graciously accepted the apology and responded, “Thank you, thank you. There’s no need to apologize.” He went on to express pride in his side and acknowledged how “difficult” the operation had been.

Following last week’s incredible nine-goal spectacle in France, Ousmane Dembele’s third-minute goal at the Allianz Arena gave PSG the perfect start to the second leg, with Bayern ultimately facing an insurmountable two-goal mountain.
Harry Kane’s goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time leveled the score at 1-1 on the night, but it came too late to pose a real threat to the visitors.
“We were able to finish the game with great intensity. We defended better than we attacked. The character we showed against a team like Bayern was very positive,” Enrique said.
“I’m very happy to have reached the Champions League final for the second year in a row. It was very intense. It was very difficult. They are playing the highest level of football. Both teams are similar. We love to press high. I am very happy.”
The result was an early gift for Enrique, who celebrates his 56th birthday on Friday. He added, “My birthday will be in two days.
“I’m very happy. We are at the next stage of the competition, the Champions League final. We want to give such a gift to our supporters.”
