Bayern Munich outline Michael Oliseh’s stance after Chelsea’s world record transfer offer

Bayern Munich have no plans to sell Michael Olise for a fee that would not affect the transfer after previously turning down a world record bid from Chelsea

Bayern Munich insist Michael Olise is not for sale, in a stance inspired by conversations after Chelsea offered him a world record fee over a decade ago.

Olise proved to be an exciting signing, joining from Crystal Palace in 2024. He now forms one of Europe’s most feared front lines alongside Harry Kane and Luis Diaz.

The Frenchman, who was traded to Reading before joining the Eagles, continues to be an elite presence and currently has 21 goals under his belt. He has produced some great moments, including his shock goal against Real Madrid early in the Champions League, but Bayern’s bosses insist they will never sell him.

The decision was made after Chelsea tried to sign Franck Ribery when he was in his prime. Bayern decided to never release players who would ultimately make the team worse, and they continue to stick to that principle.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explained: “In 2009 we received an incredible offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribery. At the time, it would have been a new world transfer record. After that, I went to the then CFO Karl Hopfner and Uli Hoeness. We talked for two hours about what to do with the offer.”

“We made a fundamental decision that day: We would no longer release players who we could pass up from a sporting standpoint. And that unspoken rule still applies. For a player like Oliseh, there is no price tag that would make us balk.”

Olise moved to the Allianz Arena for around £50 million, but Bayern could still make a huge profit if they wish to sell the Frenchman. This is the second year in a row that the 24-year-old has reached the 20-goal barrier, and Rummenigge praises his humility.

“He’s a great player,” said the German great. “I also like the fact that he’s very reserved and almost media-shy, which is an exception in today’s world. He’s a good guy and of course outstanding on the pitch, he admires football and has a way of almost performing magic. That’s why it’s no surprise that he’s incredibly popular and hyped among our fans.”

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany believes Olise continues to blossom in one of the continent’s elite teams and that his winger “will one day become one of the best players in the world.” “He’s on the right track now. Everything he does is right. His level right now is one of the best in Europe,” insisted the Belgian.
