One of Liverpool’s aces sparked outrage shortly after Arsenal defeated Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals. The Gunners defeated the Spanish side on Tuesday night to reach the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years.
The result sparked scenes of uncontrollable jubilation inside the Emirates Stadium, but many Arsenal fans were also seen celebrating the win on social media. One of them is Joshua Abe, a member of Liverpool’s youth academy who has over 40,000 followers on Instagram.
However, Abe celebrated the fact that Arsenal had reached the Champions League final by posting an image of the score on his social media pages, angering some Liverpool supporters. Interestingly, the teenager has attracted interest from Arsenal and could be linked with a move to the North Londoners in the off-season.
The winger has been a highly regarded member of Liverpool’s Under-18s side, contributing 11 goals in 10 games this season. Unfortunately, his season ended prematurely after sustaining an injury while on tour with the England Under-16s.
Confirming the news on Instagram, he posted, “It hurts to see the season cut short, but everything happens for a reason.”
Liverpool have not tied him down to a scholarship offer – the only contract available at his age – meaning the club could lose him this summer. Along with Arsenal, Manchester City are also being talked about as potential candidates, and Prime Minister Abe even attended the Etihad Stadium to watch their recent match against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Abe has been with Liverpool since he was a child, and there are reports that he even trained with Arne Slott’s first team. It remains to be seen whether their attacking charm will work, but given that Liverpool are still chasing Champions League qualification, Slott now has bigger issues to worry about.
Sunday’s loss to rivals Manchester United leaves them six points behind sixth-placed Bournemouth, with three games left in the season. A win against struggling Chelsea on Saturday should be enough given Liverpool’s superior goal difference, but the Reds face a difficult end to this campaign.
The game against Chelsea at Anfield will be followed by a trip to the penultimate game of the season against fellow Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa, before finishing the season at home to Brentford. Brentford could even be in contention for Champions League qualification by the time the match begins, making Saturday’s clash with Chelsea a crucial one.
