When the final whistle rang, the area around Emirates Stadium erupted in jubilation as Arsenal advanced to the final for the first time in 20 years. The teams will be watching the second leg of the other semi-final with keen interest, knowing who they will face.
When asked about his preferred opponent in the final on CBS Sports on Tuesday night, Saka said, “Well, well… you can’t ask me that. I’d have to give a trained answer in the media.”
When pressed further on the matter, he added, “Deep down I think we know who we want to play in the final.”
Although deliberately puzzling, this reaction has led supporters to speculate that Arsenal may have PSG in mind as they eager for revenge against the French giants.
PSG defeated Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals this time last year, knocking them out of the competition.
PSG won the memorable first leg 5-4 and held a slim advantage going into the second leg against Bayern at the Allianz Arena.
PSG extended their advantage as early as the third minute with a goal from Ousmane Dembele, making it 1-0 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate.
The French giants took control and defended with sheer determination to keep the likes of Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Dias at bay and silence the raucous home crowd.
In stoppage time, Kane gave Bayern one last lifeline, bringing the score back to 6-5 on aggregate.
However, there was not enough time for the German side to find the equalizing goal they so desperately needed.
Their loss means PSG will advance to the Champions League final for the second year in a row.
Luis Enrique’s team won the trophy for the first time last season, defeating Inter 5-0 in a dominant display.
The highly anticipated final between Arsenal and PSG will be held on Saturday, May 30th at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
