Tottenham Hotspur defeated Aston Villa 2-1 to lift themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone and once again have their fate in their hands. Spurs now have a one-point lead over West Ham United on goal difference, 10 points after scoring four goals this weekend. Tottenham took the lead 12 minutes later when Conor Gallagher scored his first goal for the club he joined in January. Richarlison then doubled their lead with a header from Matthijs Tell’s cross from the second phase of a corner kick, but Villa were unable to clear it. Emi Buendia scored late on, but Spurs held on. They will survive by outperforming West Ham in their remaining three games. Spurs host Leeds United next weekend before playing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their final away game. Everton visit on the final day of the Premier League season. Arsenal are next at home to West Ham, with a home game against Newcastle United and Leeds on the final day. Notably, the next two matches between both clubs are scheduled to kick off before Tottenham play. Nottingham Forest will not play this weekend, as they will visit Stamford Bridge tomorrow for the early May bank holiday, and have games against both clubs ahead of them. Two of the final three games will be played at the City Ground, with home games against Newcastle and Bournemouth in between, before a match against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Crystal Palace and Leeds are still mathematically not safe as they need three more points to guarantee they finish ahead of West Ham.
