Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney hit the headlines this week after claiming Mo Salah’s “legs just don’t work anymore” ahead of Sunday’s game against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Liverpool star Mo Salah has insisted he is not done yet after Wayne Rooney claimed he had “lost a leg”. Salah, 33, will leave Liverpool next month after what looks to be the Reds’ poorest season yet.

The Egyptian captain was Liverpool’s top scorer when they won the title last season, but has scored just seven goals in the Premier League this season. Salah has one year left on his contract at Anfield but has decided to look for pastures new in the summer transfer window after both parties reached an agreement.

Discussing Salah’s decline on The Wayne Rooney Show, the Manchester United legend said: “I’ve been saying this since the season started, your legs weaken because of age. I think that’s happened to Salah this season, but Virgil van Dijk hasn’t been the same this season.”

However, in an interview with fellow Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports, Salah, who is currently out with a hamstring injury and will not feature in Sunday’s game against United, spoke about his physique. “I feel good, physically I’m fine,” the forward said.

“I didn’t get old overnight. I had a great season last season. I think there’s a lot I can do and I’m going to see what’s best for me.”

“I feel this is the right thing to do now to finish the season and I’m relieved. The season has been tough for everyone. I don’t want to say too much.”

Salah also gave an update on his recovery from injury and admitted he does not know where he will be playing his football next season, with rumors of a big-money move to a club in Saudi Arabia or Europe. “To be honest, physically I feel like there’s a lot I can do,” he added.

“I played a lot of games this season. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet, but there are a lot of good options. Physically, I’m in good shape, I can feel the fruits of all the work I’ve been doing over the years, and I feel good.”

“I’ll see what’s best for me. Certainly the injury is fine. I hope to be back (in time for the final game against Brentford).”

Liverpool will play three more games after facing United. Arne Slott’s side host Chelsea and will travel to Aston Villa later in the day before taking on Brentford.
