Manchester United will have a big hole to fill in their squad this summer with Casemiro set to leave, but the Red Devils already have a strong list of potential signings.
Manchester United have added Atalanta star Ederson to their list of candidates to replace Casemiro. The former Real Madrid midfielder is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season when his contract expires.
It will come after perhaps Casemiro’s most impressive season to date as a United player. And United’s leaders have drawn up an extensive list of candidates to replace him.
Brighton’s Carlos Baleva, Nottingham Forest star Elliott Anderson, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Real Madrid destroyer Aurelien Choameni are among the players United are keeping an eye on. However, Ederson has emerged as a new target, with the Brazilian seen as likely to leave Atalanta.
Ederson, 26, is out of contract next summer and has an estimated annual salary of between 40 million and 50 million euros (approximately 35 million pounds to 45 million pounds). According to the Guardian, Jason Wilcox is a fan of the midfielder and could seek a move in the summer.

However, United could face competition for his services, with Atletico Madrid also thought to have shown strong interest. “We have added another player to the list of great players we have,” the club’s sporting director Mateu Alemany said in February.
United reportedly want to sign two new midfielders this summer, but that could largely depend on Manuel Ugarte’s future. The Uruguayan player has struggled for form since joining from Paris Saint-Germain.
Current United manager Michael Carrick has already stressed the importance of strengthening United’s midfield for next season, especially given Casemiro’s departure.
He said this earlier this season. “Oh, well, listen, it’s an important position. I’m not biased of course being a midfielder, but I think it’s an important position where you try to hold everything together, and you connect with the whole team, and that’s sometimes emotionally, a little mentally, and showing a little bit of poise and understanding of the game.”
“The case has had a huge impact within the group in that regard, so it’s certainly something we’re very aware of moving forward.”
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in a big-money move in 2022 and has scored 25 goals in 157 appearances, eight of which have come this season. Liverpool are set to face Nottingham Forest in the final week of the season, but Carrick’s team host Brentford on Monday night, which could be his final appearance at Old Trafford.
