Liverpool suffer serious injury ahead of match against Man United | Soccer | Sports

Liverpool will reportedly miss Alexander Isak for this weekend’s Premier League match against Manchester United. The Anfield side will travel to Old Trafford to take on the Red Devils, in what will be a head-to-head battle between the rivals for Champions League qualification.

Isak joined Liverpool last summer in a deal thought to be worth £125 million, but his debut season on Merseyside was hampered by injuries.

The Sweden international only returned to the pitch in April after being sidelined for four months with a fractured fibula and ankle injury, which required surgery before he fully recovered.

However, The Sun reports that Isak is not expected to feature in Liverpool’s game against United due to fresh injury concerns.

Isak was ruled out of the trip to Old Trafford with a groin injury, which the report claims was sustained during training this week.

If Isak is unavailable for Liverpool, Reds head coach Arne Slott will be without a senior centre-forward in his squad to face United in a crucial game.

Summer signing Hugo Ekitike is already sidelined after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon last month, while Mohamed Salah will also be sidelined as he recovers from a muscle injury sustained in last week’s game against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool are also still without second-choice goalkeeper Giorgi Mamadashvili and will have to wait and see if Alisson Becker is available for the match against United.

“Alison hasn’t trained with us yet. We’ll find out today if he’ll be able to do it today or early next week,” Slott said. “It’s very close, but we won’t take the risk.

“We don’t want to do that to any player. There’s a difference between a keeper and a player. They need to run more.

“So if the problem with outfield players is when they get sent off, it’s fitness level and there’s another problem with goalkeepers.”

Milos Kerkes is also an injury doubt for Liverpool, but Slott has said he wants the defender to take part in training ahead of the trip to Old Trafford.

“Milos had a little bit of a problem,” Slott said. “He left the practice field the day before yesterday, but we expect him to practice today or tomorrow.”

Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Wataru Endo are also unavailable for Liverpool due to long-term injuries.
