Arsenal beat Newcastle on Saturday to move three points clear of Manchester City, but manager Gary Lineker believes another side could stumble to Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League with a win over Newcastle on Saturday, but manager Gary Lineker warned there are tougher tests ahead. The Gunners beat Newcastle 1-0 thanks to a brilliant goal from Eberechi Eze and have a chance to go six points clear of Manchester City when they face Fulham this weekend.

Mikel Arteta’s side had seen their lead at the top of the table evaporate after two consecutive defeats, including against title rivals City. However, Arsenal opened up a three-point lead after playing City in the FA Cup at the weekend, and with another game in hand before their rivals, they could extend that gap even further on Saturday.

According to statisticians Opta, the Gunners are 72% favorites to beat City for the title, mainly due to the ease of the game. They will face Fulham, West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace, while City will face European chasers Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Palace and Aston Villa.

However, Lineker warned Arsenal that they could stumble in their away trip to West Ham on May 10, as the Hammers are in good form and in a relegation battle with Tottenham.

“Arsenal aren’t being very creative at the moment, it wasn’t like this in the first half of the season,” Lineker said on The Rest Is Football podcast. “They were very impressive, I don’t know if it was nerves or confidence, but they looked very edgy.Of course the result was the most important thing and they managed to get the three points.”

“They could be six points ahead of Man City before they play again and Arsenal’s remaining four games are very winnable. They have Fulham at home and then West Ham away, but it’s going to be difficult from now on. West Ham are fighting for their lives and are playing well at the moment.”

“It’s going to be a tough game for Arsenal because they’ve been as good as almost anyone since the start of the year. At home at Burnley, Arsenal will be keen to win that game and then play away to Crystal Palace on the final day of the season.”

“Overall, I would say Arsenal have a slightly easier game than Manchester City. But we know that City are usually pretty good in the end. I think it’s about 50-50. I think it’s about 50-50 between Arsenal and Manchester City.”

Arsenal are currently focused on Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid. They will face Fulham after returning from the Spanish capital, but City won’t play again until next Monday when they travel to Everton.
