Steven Gerrard has been linked with the post at Burnley, but the post could soon become vacant as talks continue with Scott Parker following the team’s relegation to the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard is in contention to take the Burnley job if the newly relegated side choose to part ways with Scott Parker.

The Liverpool icon has had stints in the Premier League and in Scotland, but has never played for English football’s second tier. He wants to get back into the dugout and would be in the frame if Turf Moor were interested.

Parker spent two years at Burnley, helping them win promotion with 100 points, but was unable to build on that as the Clarets crashed back into the Championship. Last week, they lost to Manchester City and their relegation was confirmed.

TalkSport understands there are ongoing negotiations over Burnley’s financial situation and there is a real possibility that Parker could leave. If that were to happen, Gerrard would be one of the leading candidates for the role.

Craig Bellamy, who played alongside Gerrard at Liverpool, is also likely to be considered. Bellamy is currently in charge of Wales, but before that he impressed as Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Burnley.

Gerrard is exempt from paying tax for his stay in Saudi Arabia as he was required to remain abroad for the entire tax year after leaving Al Etifaq in January 2025. Even after retiring as a consultant, his contract with the Saudi Pro League side has ended.

Aston Villa was Gerrard’s final job in England, but he was sacked in October 2022 after less than a year in charge. Burnley are likely to be one of the favorites to make a comeback next year, potentially giving the 45-year-old the chance to manage in the Premier League again.

His former England colleague Frank Lampard opted to move down to the Championship after a few stints in the top-flight role, but returned thanks to Coventry’s promotion and his stock has risen.

Gerrard may have to wait until he makes a decision, with a number of roles expected to be offered in the Premier League this summer. Crystal Palace and Bournemouth have both confirmed their managers are leaving. Marco Silva’s contract with Fulham also expires at the end of the season.
