Marcus Rashford has scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 45 appearances for Barcelona this season, but his long-term future with the club remains uncertain as he approaches the end of his loan spell.

Marcus Rashford is trying to remain calm amid speculation over his future at Barcelona. Rashford wants to remain at Barça when his season-long loan from Manchester United ends, but his excellent performances do not guarantee that.

Rashford scored in Barça’s 2-0 win over Getafe on Saturday, taking his tally to 13 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances. He was praised by manager Hansi Flick as Barça moved 11 points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga with five games remaining.

However, despite his new contribution, Rashford’s long-term future at the Catalan giants remains to be determined. Barcelona have a £26m option to turn his loan into a permanent move, but have made it clear to United that they will not necessarily accept the terms.

Spanish media reports suggest that Barca are keen to reverse course on triggering this clause and negotiate a reduced fee with United instead. This position has led to speculation that Barça are not at all keen on signing Rashford and that their priorities lie elsewhere.

With Robert Lewandowski set to leave the club, Barcelona are keen to sign Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez this summer. And there are reports that he is also keen to sign another forward who does not have the same profile as Rashford.

The noise is creating a lot of uncertainty as sporting director Deco plans his strategy before the start of the summer season. However, BBC Sport reported that Rashford and his entourage remained calm and did not read too much into the media speculation.

The 28-year-old knows he is valued by Flick and believes the German manager’s influence is enough to secure him a permanent deal, even if it means taking a pay cut. Rashford’s contract with United earns him around £325,000 a week, but Barca’s financial constraints mean he will earn significantly less if he leaves permanently.

The England forward has adapted well to playing in a new country and to a new tactical system where he is not guaranteed a starting place every weekend. He is very happy with his life on and off the pitch and is confident of starting the 2026/27 season at Barcelona.

“I feel very fortunate and fortunate that this is one of the places I’ve been able to play,” he said in December. “Because it’s a huge club, it’s a club I’ve always admired since I was little and it’s my favorite club outside of England. As many football fans know, the football they play here is amazing. It feels great to be able to wear this shirt.”

He added in an interview with the BBC: “It’s different, but it’s a great learning curve for me. And even the little things, I’m not completely done with it yet, but learning the language and things like that, learning the culture, it’s all fun for me.”

“This is a new language of football. Like many people around the world, I have always been a fan of Spanish football. It’s a great honor to play for Spain’s biggest club. I’m looking forward to playing more games here. I’ll just try to do my best and help the team win.”

Flick’s comments after Rashford came on as a substitute and scored against Getafe underlined his place in the team. “Marcus came on in the second half and used the space that was given to us,” he said.

“We talked about it at half-time. I’m happy for the team, for us and for him that he scored this goal, because it’s very important for him and for us.”
