The Premier League will have to reschedule one of Tottenham Hotspur’s remaining Premier League matches before the end of the season, following Chelsea’s victory over Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final.
The Blues won 1-0 against Leeds at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with Enzo Fernandes scoring the winning goal for Callum MacFarlane’s side.
The win means Chelsea will face Manchester City in next month’s FA Cup final, after City secured their place in the high-profile fixture with a 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday.
The final between Chelsea and City is scheduled to be held at Wembley on Saturday May 16th, with Spurs set to face the Blues in the Premier League that weekend, but this fixture will have to be rescheduled.
Tottenham and Chelsea will face off in the Premier League next weekend, with Spurs facing Aston Villa on Sunday 3 May and the Blues facing Nottingham Forest on Monday 4 May.
Tottenham’s game is unlikely to be moved to the week of May 4-10, as Chelsea play on a Monday night.
The Blues then return to Premier League duty on Saturday, May 9th, when they take on Liverpool at Anfield. Spurs will then face Leeds United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday 11 May during the same game week. The timing of this game rules out another spot in midweek for Tottenham vs. Chelsea.
Chelsea are then scheduled to face City in the FA Cup final on May 16, the only day Spurs can face the Blues.
The showdown between Chelsea and Tottenham is likely to be scheduled the week after the FA Cup final, before the final day of the Premier League on May 24.
As a result, Tottenham will face Chelsea in a midweek game before facing Everton in the final league game of the season.
For Chelsea, this means the Blues will face City in the FA Cup final, followed by the postponed game against Tottenham and the final Premier League game against Sunderland, all within a week.
