Xavi Simmons posted a message on his Instagram Story saying: “Trust the process” after sustaining a potentially serious injury in Tottenham’s win over Wolves. Simmons was carried off on a stretcher just after the hour mark at Molineux, raising concerns that he had damaged his anterior cruciate ligament.
The Dutchman, who could miss out on the World Cup if the worst-case scenario were to be confirmed, allayed some fears by re-sharing a graphic of Spurs’ post-match victory on his Instagram Story with the caption: “Always TTP (white heart emoji)”.
Although relegation rivals West Ham also picked up three points, it was still an important win for Spurs. However, the results were somewhat overshadowed by two injury setbacks, with another player, Dominic Solanke, being forced off the pitch.
Coach Roberto De Zerbi said of the injury: “For Xavi, it’s a knee problem. We’ll take a look in the next few days. Monday or Tuesday.”
“For Solanke, it’s not a big problem. I don’t know how many games he will lose, but I would like to know the situation with Xavi, because a knee is always different from a muscle injury.”
De Zerbi later added of Simmons: “He was in pain. Now, I spoke to him a couple of minutes ago. He’s feeling better than he was at the beginning of the injury.”
De Zerbi is said to be hopeful that Simmons will be available for the remaining games, while James Maddison is still not guaranteed to return from his ACL injury before the end of the season, despite playing in the team’s final two games, football.london reports.

In fact, if Simmons is ruled out for the remainder of the season, Tottenham may be without a fit and available attacking midfielder.
Asked how he plans to deal with the lack of creativity, De Zerbi said: “We can play with Matthijs Tell on the left, Kolo Muani on the right, Souza on the right and (Lucas) Bergvall on the left. We have to create.”

“We don’t really want to play three defenders or four defenders and we don’t want to confuse the players any more, especially because the tactical nature has changed so much this season.
“Let me say this clearly and simply: In response to your question, we need to be strong and keep ourselves positive.”
Spurs’ next game is Aston Villa, with Unai Emery’s side set to face Nottingham Forest in either of those matches in the Europa League semi-finals. Tottenham host Leeds next weekend.
Chelsea and Everton have ended Tottenham’s season, but West Ham still have to face Brentford, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leeds.
