Tottenham are facing relegation from the Premier League. Next season’s starting line-up could change dramatically if the north London club fall into the Championship.
First and foremost, there are a number of Tottenham’s current stars who are unlikely to remain in the club’s second division, given both their quality and wage demands. These include Mohamed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Pedro Polo, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
The quintet, valued at £230m by Transfermarkt, could go some way towards stabilizing Spurs’ finances. The likes of Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogi and Lukas Bergvall could also be mooted for potential transfers. The loan deals for Randall Kolo Muani and Joao Parinha almost certainly won’t become permanent.
A number of other first-team regulars could consider leaving, and Spurs could rely on academy talent to step up. Young Mikey Moore has performed well on loan at Rangers this season and could return to lead Spurs’ attack, while Wilson Odbert brings Championship experience from his time at Burnley.
Dane Scarlett has gained valuable loan experience at Oxford United and second-tier side Ipswich Town and could spearhead Tottenham’s attack as a centre-forward. Conor Gallagher and James Maddison are both reportedly among the club’s top earners and will likely have to take wage cuts if they stay.
However, the English duo may bounce back and choose to stay. Archie Gray has been a rare bright spot in a turbulent period for Spurs and could become the anchor of Spurs’ midfield. At the back, Kevin Danso’s reportedly modest salary could make him an attractive option, while Radu Dragusin could also stay.
Souza could be offered the left-back spot, while a fairy-tale return for Kyle Walker from his recent relegation at Burnley is not out of the question. It is also worth noting that although relegation will be a financial blow to Spurs, there is still room to strengthen the team. However, Antonin Kinski can stay between the posts.
Starting XI if Tottenham are relegated: Kinski. Walker, Danso, Dragusin, Souza. Gray, Gallagher, Madison. Odbert, Scarlett and Moore.
