Erling Haaland scored Manchester City’s winning goal against Burnley but appeared frustrated by constant questions about his lack of goals against Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

Erling Haaland became increasingly irritated after Manchester City’s win over Burnley as he continued to be questioned about his lack of goals at Turf Moor.

The Norwegian scored five minutes later, and it was the only goal of the match. Many thought Haaland’s goal would open the floodgates as Pep Guardiola’s side look to further increase their goal difference.

In fact, he was wasted in front of goal, failing to score even for a second in the match against Burnley, who were relegated to the Championship. Haaland himself hit the post, but he and his teammates thwarted many other chances.

This means they are top of the table for the first time since August, but they are level on goal difference with Arsenal, meaning they are top of the table on goals alone. On paper, this was City’s easiest game, but Haaland was simply happy to get the three points.

He told Sky Sports: “We had a lot of chances but I’m happy to win. That’s the most important thing, other than that… you don’t have to think about just winning.”

Responding to Haaland’s opinion that performances are secondary to results at the end of the season, the Norwegian replied: “As I said, it’s all about winning. We’ll try to play our football and just try to win, no matter what. That’s what’s in my mind. And now I’m focused on Saturday.”

The Premier League’s top scorer appeared frustrated when asked again about City’s missed opportunity to win by a huge margin. “Don’t think about goals, think about winning. I’ve said it three times now,” he quipped.

Haaland has now scored 24 goals and leads the competition for the Golden Boot for the third time in four years since moving to the Premier League. Despite him and City being at the top of the title race, it is likely that they will be dethroned by Arsenal sooner or later.

The Manchester outfit will play in the FA Cup this weekend, while the Gunners will face City twice before they return to Premier League action. This means the North Londoners could build a six-point lead over the two games, meaning Guardiola and co could catch up again.
