Marc Gehi warns Man City against winning treble: ‘I don’t know football’

Manchester City could end the season with three trophies, but January signing Marc Gehi has sent a strong message to those ahead heading into the final weeks.

Marc Guehi insists there is no talk of a Treble in Manchester City’s dressing room. And Guehi told everyone who thinks Josep Guardiola’s side will aim for another league title: “They don’t know football.”

City’s narrow 1-0 win at Burnley on Wednesday moved them past title rivals Arsenal into the top spot for the first time since August.

City were expected to win by a landslide, relegating the Clarets and increasing their goal difference. But City had to rely on a goal from Erling Haaland to see off a spirited Clarets side.

Guardiola’s side will look to keep their hopes of scoring a hat-trick this season alive when they face Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. However, Guehi revealed that the matter was not even mentioned within the team.

Asked about the team’s chances of winning two more trophies in addition to winning the Carabao Cup, the England defender said: “That’s what everyone is talking about.

“We just have to focus on one game at a time, that’s the most important thing. Next up is Southampton and it’s important to focus on that – and see if we can get to the final again.”

“Everyone thinks these games are easy because there was a lot of emotion and focus in the last game against Arsenal. When you play against a team (Burnley) who are fighting for their lives, it’s not going to be easy.

“Anyone who thought it was going to be easy obviously doesn’t know football. I’m glad everyone did their job and worked hard. The most important thing was just to win.”

Guehi admits it feels good to be back at the top of the table and looking down on the rest of the table. Arsenal have two more league games to play before City resume their title challenge, but Guehi has told his team to focus on themselves and forget about what Mikel Arteta’s side will do.

He added: “To be honest, I don’t really think about being at the top. It’s good, we’re where we want to be, but there’s still a long way to go. It’s good for now, but there’s still a lot to play for.”

“Our priority is just to focus on ourselves. We played the game against Arsenal and were able to control that game, and now it’s up to us to do our best in the games we have left.”
