Gary Neville gives a speech after Liam Rosenior was sacked by Chelsea on Wednesday afternoon following five successive Premier League defeats.
Gary Neville has accused Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandes of “colluding” Liam Rosenior and told Chelsea owner Bruco he doesn’t know what they’re doing. Chelsea boss Rosseniol was sacked by Chelsea after their side lost five consecutive games without scoring in the Premier League.
Rosenior signed a five-and-a-half year contract after joining from Strasbourg, the French club also managed by Chelsea co-owner Todd Boley and Clearlake Capital. However, they managed just 11 wins in 23 competitive matches, with Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton being the final straw for the club’s pecking order.
Callum MacFarlane will take over as caretaker manager until the end of the season, but Neville believes Cucurella and Fernandes’ recent gushing about Enzo Maresca, who replaced Rosenior, did not solve the problem. Speaking on Sky Sports News, Neville said: “The results weren’t good enough. When the results aren’t good enough, managers are sacked. But come on, Kukreja and Fernandes are experienced players, probably the only experienced players that Chelsea have brought in, but in recent weeks they’ve buoyed him up by basically calling out the fact that they love Maresca but they haven’t performed that well under Maresca.”
“I think Maresca is also a great manager, but I don’t understand this policy and this plan of Chelsea. These six-year, eight-year contracts are almost ridiculous from the beginning, both for the manager and the players.

“The owners have no idea what they’re doing. I’ve made big mistakes as an owner, but sometimes you have to accept them. I’ve spoken publicly about the challenges we have.
“But they’re all over the place. I don’t really get it. You deserve what you get in football, and it’s not a reflection on them. It’s not a reflection on the coach, who, to be fair, probably shouldn’t have been put in that role and promoted right away.”
“He should have been left to build his career as a promising young manager. He can’t turn down the Chelsea job. I can understand why it was attractive, but the reality is that he now has to continue his coaching career and put it behind him as soon as possible, because the club are a bit crazy in their decision-making at the moment.”
Neville added: “I’m not shocked that Liam is leaving the club. I’m shocked that he’s leaving today. I thought it would probably happen at the end of the season.”
“After signing a six-year contract, I thought they would stick around until the end of the season. That’s no reflection on Liam at all. He’s lost a lot of football games in recent weeks and will be disappointed in that.”
“But it’s time for owners, sporting directors and players to reflect on their role in what has happened in recent weeks. Their fans will be absolutely disgusted by this approach.”
“The owners have made a really bad mistake. I said this at the time: They have talented players, they have a young sporting director in terms of European experience, but the ownership is young in terms of being only a couple of years old. They need some experience somewhere in the club.”
