Frank Lampard and Jamie Redknapp are cousins, but as Harry recently recalled during an appearance on I’m a Celebrity…, they weren’t always friendly on the pitch… South Africa
Harry Redknapp has recalled how his son Jamie was left with 24 stitches after a violent collision with his nephew Frank Lampard. The family feud began during a match between Liverpool and West Ham, where Harry was then manager.
Lampard, who is now his own manager after leading Coventry City to promotion to the Premier League, was a promising star at West Ham when Redknapp Junior was in the middle of his career at Liverpool. Prince Harry did not reveal the exact match in which the incident occurred, but the cousins faced each other twice at Anfield over two different seasons in the Premier League in 1999.
The former director, who appeared on I’m a Celebrity…South Africa, told the story to a group of campmates, including former footballer Jimmy Bullard. “My goalkeeping coach, Les Seeley, what an amazing guy,” Harry began.
“He’s with me on the bench at Anfield. West Ham are playing Liverpool. About 20 minutes later, my son Jamie caught my nephew Frank Lampard in a bad tackle.”

“Frank comes off. Seeley says, ‘Frank, get back up and do it right. He’s free. Make sure you hurt him.’
“I’m thinking, ‘He’s talking about my son.’ I’m not going to lie, I swear. I’m thinking, ‘This is wrong.’ I can’t say anything because I can’t say, ‘Oh, I can’t hurt him.'”
But Lampard got his own back in the future, as Harry explained, “Anyway, he didn’t do him that day, Frank. But they went to Chelsea later in the season and Frank gave him (the elbow gesture) and (Jamie) got 24 stitches. Frank caught Lampard with a beauty.” They’re cousins, you know? ”
However, Jamie’s story of how Lampard took revenge is different. The former Liverpool star claims both incidents took place in the 2000s, when Lampard was playing for Chelsea and Jamie was at Tottenham.

In a 2019 interview alongside his father, Jamie told Chelsea TV: “I remember playing against Frank. I had a little set with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. The ball was between us and I thought, ‘Yeah, there he is, I’m going to get him.’
“I went for him and let him go a little bit and ended up with Frank. So Frank wasn’t very happy with me. And I remember the next year we played at White Hart Lane and I thought he wasn’t serious. I know that – well, he said he wasn’t serious – he got me back. I got a big injury that required 20 stitches in my lip… He definitely gave me one of those, you (Harry) know that.”
Fortunately, there was no bad blood between the two, and after their respective retirements they pursued contrasting careers. While Lampard, 47, continues to follow in his uncle’s footsteps as manager, Jamie has had a successful career in the media. The 52-year-old regularly appears as a commentator on Sky Sports and was previously team captain in the A-League of Their Own.
