The North Stand at Villa Park will be closed for the season as Aston Villa accelerate plans to redevelop the stadium, which will have a capacity of 50,000 by the start of the 2027/28 season.
Aston Villa will close their North Stand for the duration of next season as the stadium’s capacity is set to increase to 50,000 and expand plans for Villa Park.
In order to realize these ambitions in a timely manner, the club has decided to close its stands and suspend its activities for the next term. The club announced almost 12 months ago that it would increase the capacity of the North Stand from 5,000 to 12,000, with completion expected by the end of 2027.
The villa has decided to expedite its redevelopment. The stand, located opposite the iconic Holte End, will undergo a major refurbishment with work expected to be completed by next summer, meaning it will be ready for the start of the 2027/28 campaign.
Premier League clubs, which are also likely to qualify for next season’s Champions League, will have to reduce their capacity to around 37,000 before boasting a significant increase next year. Villa Park’s current capacity is 42,640 people.
Mr Villa said the new stand would include operational efficiencies that would ultimately reduce costs and speed up processes, the Birmingham Mail reports. Improvements to the North Stand will see the construction of new first team substitute facilities, medical facilities and physiotherapy facilities.

Francesco Calbo, Villa’s Head of Business Operations, said: “Temporarily reducing the capacity at Villa Park is not a decision we take lightly, but it is the right one and one we have taken with the long-term future of our supporters and the club at the heart of our thinking.”
“Completing the redevelopment in one season will reduce disruption, improve the Villa Park experience more quickly and ensure responsible investment while complying with financial regulations.”
Due to the temporary closure of the North Stand, affected season ticket holders will be relocated. The club has confirmed that those affected will be offered the opportunity to renew their tickets at the same price level in another area of the stadium. Families are also allowed to immigrate together. Villa is working to provide the same or similar seating wherever possible and those affected will be given priority access back to the redeveloped North Stand.
Villa have become regulars in the Premier League’s top six, mainly due to the arrival of Unai Emery. He has led the club to European competition over the past three seasons and is set to build on that performance this year.
