Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has reportedly rejected approaches from the BBC and ITV to reinstate his role as a pundit for this summer’s World Cup.

Coach Vincent Kompany has reportedly turned down the opportunity to become a pundit at this summer’s World Cup. The Bayern Munich manager had the opportunity to join either the BBC or ITV studios, but turned it down.

Kompany’s team won the Bundesliga title with a 4-2 win over Stuttgart on Sunday. After winning the club’s 13th league title in the past 14 years, attention has now turned to winning the Treble, with the Champions League and DFB Pokal also remaining.

However, the Bayern manager was also considering private offers ahead of the summer, when many players head to North America for the World Cup. Mr. Kompany had made a good impression as a critic and was highly sought after.

However, the Daily Mail reports that the BBC and ITV have been unsuccessful in luring him into the studio. Instead, Kompany plans to use the summer to relax and recharge after an intense and grueling campaign.

The 40-year-old went straight into management after retiring from active duty in 2020, but is still able to expand his horizons. He has worked for the BBC and Sky Sports and his analytical mind has proven popular with broadcasters.

It is understood Kompany was sought after this summer in part because he could provide insight into England captain Harry Kane. The prolific striker scored his 56th goal of the season against Stuttgart at the weekend and will now focus on international duty under manager Thomas Tuchel at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Bayern have four games left in the Bundesliga title and will face Bayer Leverkusen in the cup semi-finals on Wednesday, before facing defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in the last four of the Champions League.

And those games were Kompany’s focus Sunday. Asked about winning his second consecutive Bundesliga title since taking over Bayern in 2024, he said: “The numbers are great, but it’s not over yet.”

“We keep moving forward. It’s also a mental thing. Whether it’s in pre-season or during games, we’re always giving our all and we don’t want to stop yet. We have important weeks ahead of us. We’re excited but we also know how tough it will be. Our belief is there and that’s very valuable in football.”

He added: “It’s great. For me, every title is like a first. Otherwise, there’s no point in doing this job. These moments take so much effort, not just this season, but over several years. Once you get there, you have to enjoy it.”

“This moment is just about enjoying everything. Tomorrow, we’ll keep going like always.”
