Former Chelsea star and manager Frank Lampard guided Coventry to Premier League qualification and has already given his views on what the Midlands side need.
Manager Frank Lampard believes Coventry need to be “ambitious” ahead of their first Premier League season in nearly 30 years. The Midlands side clinched promotion last week with a 1-1 draw with Blackburn.
Coventry still have work to do if they want to win the Championship, but Lampard is already making plans for next season.
He insisted the Sky Blues need to approach next season with ambition and without hesitation. Speaking after being named EFL Championship Manager of the Season, Lampard said: “We know the steps for the football club, so there is a lot of work to do.
“So, given the situation we’re in, it’s something we have to address now and we have to be ambitious – we are Coventry City Football Club.
“We know what the Premier League is about and it will be a challenge. We can enjoy the moment for the next two weeks, but of course we have to work behind the scenes to keep us on the right path.”

Speaking about Coventry’s promotion to the Premier League, Lampard added: “I was emotional last night (after winning promotion at Blackburn) because in that moment I realized what we had achieved.”
“The club I joined 16 months ago was willing to back up to the bottom. Football has always been about the people and the supporters and I missed that.
“I have to give credit to (former head coach) Mark Robbins for what he’s done with the club and to Doug King, the owner, and be grateful for this moment. “And I’m working with a great group of players.
“When you get into a group, you forget about the football talent. Of course that’s important, but when they take care of themselves, they train well, support each other, laugh and that’s gold. This is an incredible story and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
Coventry have three games left this season and will no doubt be aiming to lift the Championship trophy. We welcome Portsmouth to the CBS Arena on Tuesday night ahead of their home game against Wrexham. The Sky Blues wrapped up their game against Watford at Vicarage Road.
As it stands, the battle for the second automatic promotion spot looks set to be a close one. Ipswich Town currently sit in second place on goal difference, ahead of Millwall, although they have a game in hand. Southampton are now one point clear of first place, but Middlesbrough still have a chance of snatching second place before the end of the season.
