Danish police also issued a statement. Authorities said they were searching for a 20-year-old man with fair skin and short dark hair who is believed to be connected to the 3:30 a.m. Sunday attack.
Javi has made one appearance for Midtjylland this season, coming on as a substitute in the Europa League qualifier against KuPS. The Guinea-Bissau-born star then featured on the bench for games against Celtic, Roma, Genk and Dinamo Zagreb.
Last season, Javi was on loan at Portuguese side Mafra, who play in the second division. He is an academy product and made his debut for Midtjylland during the 2023-24 season.
The club is currently fighting for the Superliga title, having last lifted the trophy in 2024. The four-time Danish champions sit second in the standings behind Aarhus Gymnastikforning, also known as AGF, and could face them in the title decider on Sunday night.
Midtjylland famously defeated Manchester United 2-1 in the 2016 Europa League final. In a game best remembered for Marcus Rashford’s brace on his debut, Louis van Gaal’s side won the second leg 5-1 at Old Trafford, with United eventually progressing to the round of 16.
