Sky Sports has been forced to apologize for explicit language used by Manchester City forward Erling Haaland during an interview with the broadcaster following the decisive victory over Arsenal. City won 2-1 at the Etihad to move within three points of the league leaders.

Haaland scored the potentially title-clinching goal after 65 minutes, giving Josep Guardiola’s side a chance to surpass their rivals if they win against Burnley earlier in the week. After Rayan Cherki opened the scoring, Kai Havertz grabbed the ball from Gianluigi Donnarumma and equalized in the first half.

There were scenes of City’s stars celebrating the chance to be in the driver’s seat full-time. The importance of the result could be seen in their body language as Bernardo Silva joined Haaland for media duties after the match.

Asked about his team-mate’s impressive performance against the Gunners, where the Norwegian striker chased down Havertz and beat Victor Gokeres in the air, Haaland was full of praise for his team-mate. Silva only has three games remaining at the Etihad Stadium.

“I remember that cross. After I scored the header, I said to him, ‘That’s like Cannavaro’s son of a bitch,'” Haaland said before being reprimanded by Sky Sports’ Patrick Davison.

“Erling, please say something,” he said, then added, “It’s okay.”

“We all swear a little bit in our lives,” Haaland replied. “I just told him he looks like Cannavaro.

“Today, Bernie, I don’t mean to get you emotional here, but you were really nice as always.”

Super Sunday host Dave Jones apologized again when the interview returned to the studio. “I apologize for the language,” he said. “I feel like they were trying to hide quite a lot in that interview.”

Haaland was also asked about joining up with Gabriel Magalhães. The Brazilian defender appeared to push his head into the striker, but received only a yellow card.

The 25-year-old believes if he had reacted more dramatically, the punishment would have been more severe. “If it goes to the floor, which I don’t think you’ll do unless someone really attacks you, it’s probably going to be a red card,” he said.

“I don’t really know. But it is what it is. I don’t fall to the floor. For me it’s a yellow card. I don’t know why, but he came close to my face. But it is what it is.”
