Andy Robertson confirmed last week that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, but the Reds wasted no time in finding a left-back to replace him.

Liverpool are considering signing RB Leipzig star David Raum to replace departed Andy Robertson. Last week it was announced that Roberton, 32, would be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires in June.

His departure, along with Mo Salah, will deprive Anfield’s dressing room of a wealth of experience, although the Scottish left-back has seen reduced minutes this season. However, German defender Raum has emerged as a likely option to replace him.

That’s according to talkSPORT who reported that Liverpool were impressed with the 27-year-old during a scouting mission in the Bundesliga. The Reds have been watching the Leipzig game to keep tabs on £87m-rated target Yann Diomande.

But captain Raum is also attracting attention at Anfield. The German international’s attacking qualities and leadership traits make him an ideal successor to Robertson and could aid the development of Liverpool’s first-choice left-back Milos Kerkes.

Raum only has one year left on his contract with Leipzig and could be a more affordable option compared to other targets such as Fulham’s Anthony Robinson. Signed from Hoffenheim in 2022, he helped the club win the Bundesliga club’s first major trophy, the DFB Pokal, in his first year in charge and was appointed club captain earlier this term.

He is a regular on the German national team and is scheduled to play in the World Cup this summer. The same could be said of Robertson, who is already close to making his next move.

The Liverpool legend, who won nine trophies over his years at Anfield, is in talks to move to Tottenham. Spurs were chasing him in January but Liverpool were in no position to let him go.

However, it remains to be seen whether his participation in Tottenham will be discontinued as Tottenham could be relegated to the Championship. Robertson is expected to have other suitors, with a move to his boyhood club Celtic also rumored.

In 2020, the former Celtic academy star revealed on Peter Crouch’s podcast: “If you ask me what I want to do now, of course I want to retire at Liverpool, but you know how difficult it is to play at the highest level until you’re 35 or 36 years old.

“I’d love to wear a Celtic top and walk around Parkhead. Would I ever want to go back just for a living? Well, maybe.”
