Chelsea manager Liam Rossenier hit back at a question about whether there was still faith in his team in his pre-match press conference ahead of the final few games of the season. The Blues manager said he has made it clear what he expects from his players as pressure begins to pile on the shoulders of the head coach.

The 41-year-old made a bright start to his time in London earlier this year, replacing Enzo Maresca in the Stamford Bridge dugout. However, Rosenior has won just 11 of his 21 games since taking over, and just one of those wins has come in Chelsea’s last six games.

“In terms of results, we are not in a good position. From my own point of view, we need to give energy to the team,” Rosenior said at a press conference in Chelsea.

“We were able to have some really good conversations and training sessions. You learn a lot about yourself in situations like this.”

Speculation over Rosenior’s future at the club has increased following the defeat to Manchester City at the weekend and his falling out with Enzo Fernandes, but he said: “Noise is something you can’t control. What you can control is our group, our spirit. I don’t think that’s ever been an issue.”

“You focus on what you can control and that’s our performance. We’ll make sure our attitude, energy and application to the game is on point. We expect a good performance on Saturday.”

Following Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, Rosenior was pressed on what he expected from Chelsea. The Blues are currently four points behind the Champions League spots and are facing a tough battle.

“What I want to see is for the team to react well after conceding the first goal so as not to collapse,” said Rosenior. “We’re not as far away as we probably feel.

“Of course they still believe, and of course we still believe. I don’t know why you would ask that question, I don’t know why you would do that.”
