Arsenal 0-0 Sporting (1-0 AGG): The Gunners qualify for the Champions League semi-finals, with Mikel Arteta’s side facing Atletico Madrid later this month.
Arsenal were able to shake off Sporting in the second leg, resulting in a stalemate and limped through to the Champions League semi-finals.
The Gunners went into the second leg at the Emirates with a 1-0 advantage after Kai Havertz scored the winning goal in stoppage time in Lisbon last week. Sporting came closest to filling that spot with Genny Cantano, but his first-half shot deflected wide of the post.
And despite another nerve-wracking night in front of their own fans, a 0-0 draw was enough for them to reach the semi-finals for the second year in a row for the first time in their history.
They will now face Atlético Madrid in an attractive draw, with the first leg in Madrid taking place later this month.
The Mirror’s chief football writer John Cross has assessed Arsenal’s performance on a tense but ultimately historic night in north London.
