Chelsea decide to sack Liam Rosenior just days before match against Manchester United | Chelsea Soccer | Sports

Chelsea bosses have reached a decision on Liam Rosenior’s departure ahead of a crucial meeting with Manchester United this weekend, according to reports. The former Strasbourg manager has endured a baptism of fire since being appointed as Enzo Maresca’s successor in January. He has won 11 of the 21 games he has played in charge, but just one of those has come in Chelsea’s last six games.

However, those in power at Stamford Bridge are thought to have a different view of the situation.

According to Sky Sports, they are ready to support Rosenior on a long-term basis and will continue to support him through this difficult period.

It has been claimed that Chelsea’s bosses have “confidence” in Rosenior and intend to keep him even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

He signed a six-and-a-half year contract when he joined in January, meaning he would have to pay millions in compensation if the Blues decide to pull the trigger.

After City’s defeat, Rosenior said he hoped he would be given time to build something “very special” at Chelsea.

He pointed out how manager Jurgen Klopp transformed Liverpool after giving them plenty of breathing space, firing on all cylinders and shaping the team in his image.

“Obviously I’m here and I need to win this moment,” Rosenior said. “This is a huge football club. When I first came, I didn’t ask for too much of my time because I understand this club, I understand the tradition and history of this club.

“I want to have that time because I’m confident that within that time, we can create something very special within that time.

“Even players as experienced as Pep (Guardiola) and Jurgen Klopp, who won titles with Liverpool, needed a year to sort things out.

“I came in January. It’s not an excuse, it’s reality. We need to win now and that’s what I’m going to focus on.”

Meanwhile, Italian legend Marco Materazzi has called on Chelsea to abandon the Rosenior project and appoint Cesc Fabregas in the summer.

“They are a young team and I don’t know if they have the best manager for what Chelsea needs at the moment,” Materazzi said.

“They have to try to sign Cesc Fabregas this summer. I love the job he is doing at Como at the moment. I don’t know if he will move because he wants to take Como to the Champions League.

“But I see a future at Chelsea for Fabregas. Why not? Chelsea is the best club for Cesc Fabregas because they have young players who will immediately follow his word.”
