Leeds’ impressive win over Manchester United gave their hopes of staying in the Premier League a huge boost, while results against West Ham and Nottingham Forest finally pushed Tottenham into the relegation zone.
The relegation situation changed dramatically over the weekend and into Monday, with West Ham moving out of the bottom three for the first time since November and Leeds claiming a shock three points over Manchester United.
Wolves and Burnley are as good as gone, with only one of four remaining, even if there is a mathematically slim chance of survival.
It was expected that West Ham, Leeds and even Nottingham Forest would end up at the bottom of the table this season, but Tottenham’s demise has been one of the talking points this season. They were the only team in the quartet to score zero points all weekend, and as crazy as it may sound, they are destined for the championship.
That’s right, the ninth-highest revenue team in world football, according to Deloitte, has the potential to compete for a year in the Championship. Roberto De Zerbi has arrived with a strong reputation and will need to make a big impact quickly.
Leeds’ victory in Manchester was an unexpected three points for them and their relegation rivals. Given that they still have to play four of the bottom five teams, the Yorkshire side could have the biggest say over the team that finishes in 18th place.

Tottenham are the bookmakers’ favorites to win the title, but despite two disastrous seasons, it’s still almost unbelievable to imagine Championship football being played in that state-of-the-art stadium. Mirror Football has been keeping an eye on the relegation picture, with four teams seemingly headed in completely different directions trying desperately to avoid relegation.
leeds
15th place – 36 points
Remaining games: Wolves (H), Bournemouth (A), Burnley (H), Tottenham (A), Brighton (H), West Ham (A)
The win at Old Trafford came out of the blue, but it was timely for the Yorkshire side. Their season changed on that afternoon in Manchester, when they changed to a back-five system during the loss against Manchester City, which could have caused a change in performance and kept them in the Premier League team.
Leeds were difficult to win, but equally difficult to win games. Since losing at the Etihad, they have drawn 10 times and lost only four times, while also winning just five times.
Daniel Farke’s side will believe they have taken their fate into their own hands thanks to this game, but they are just four points away from reaching the magical 40 points mark. Leeds play Wolves and Burnley at home in the coming weeks.
They still need to head to the capital twice. They will play Tottenham and then West Ham on the final day. That game against the Hammers could decide one or both of their top-flight status.
nottingham forest
16th place – 33 points
Remaining games: Burnley (H), Sunderland (A), Chelsea (A), Newcastle (H), Man United (A), Bournemouth (H)
With four men in the home dugout at the City Ground, such a change of manager will never lead to a successful season. Vitor Pereira, who took charge of Wolves this year, will be looking to build on the work done by Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche.
Forest will have more money to invest in new players thanks to last season’s excellent campaign, and the same could be said of Tottenham, although the team should have too many.
England duo Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliott Anderson will need to step up in the final six games, but they won’t be too favored against Burnley this weekend. They still have to face Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle. It’s also worth noting that while this may be a generational journey, their Europa League campaign has placed even more demands on their resources and could be extended further if they can get past Porto this week.
west ham
17th place – 32 points
Remaining games: Crystal Palace (A), Everton (H), Brentford (A), Arsenal (H), Newcastle (A), Leeds (H)
The Hammers have lost just three of their last 11 games and are in good form at the ideal time for Nuno to keep West Ham at the top of the table. Since January they have beaten Tottenham, Burnley and Wolves, but their form has been less than ideal. They play a lot of teams and have plenty of room to play themselves.
For several weeks in a row, they will play against Everton and Brentford, who are chasing the European title, and then face Arsenal, who are expected to win the title. All eyes are likely to be on the final day’s showdown with Leeds. The ideal situation for the Hammers is that Falke’s charge is already safe and the game is left like dead rubber for them.
Dissatisfaction among the fan base is probably at an all-time high, and relegation could cause big problems for West Ham off the pitch.
tottenham
18th place – 30 points
Remaining games: Brighton (H), Wolves (A), Aston Villa (A), Leeds (H), Chelsea (A), Everton (H)
It may be a recent story, not just this season. While the collapse of the north London red side has garnered attention, Tottenham’s decline has been a slow death rather than a sudden decline.
Tottenham have spent big on the highly-rated player De Zerbi, but the Italian has had little time to show his magic. Incredibly, Tottenham have not won in the Premier League since 2026, and their performances offer little hope.
They have been forced to suffer defeat from those around them. A recent 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in our own game marked the end for the quickly departed Igor Tudor.
Tottenham remain the Europa League title holders, but if they do fall into the Championship they will almost certainly go down as the best group to have experienced relegation. They could pick up six points from the away game against Wolves and the home game against Leeds, but they are still likely to be short on points. That means Tottenham will need to find inspiration from somewhere soon.
