Blackpool FC have revealed that a fan has died following a medical emergency at Bloomfield Road on Saturday. The Seasiders’ 3-1 win over Peterborough United was halted for 30 minutes in the second half as emergency staff treated fans in the stands.

But despite their best efforts, the club announced on Sunday that the fan, now named Graham Sharman, had died. In a statement, the club said: “Blackpool Football Club is deeply saddened to announce the death of supporter Graham Sharman.

“Graham suffered a medical emergency during the second half of Saturday’s match at Bloomfield Road. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Graham sadly passed away.

“The club has been in contact with his family and will continue to remain in close contact to provide the necessary support.

“Your thoughts and condolences go out to Mr. Graham’s family and all those involved at this time. Rest in peace Mr. Graham.”

A number of fellow clubs also paid tribute to Graham online.

AFC Fylde wrote: “This is shocking news. Our thoughts are with Graham’s friends and family and everyone at Blackpool FC.”

Meanwhile, Peterborough United added: “The football club is saddened to hear this news. Our thoughts are with Graham’s friends and family at this incredibly sad time.”

Fleetwood Town also said: “The thoughts of everyone at Fleetwood Town are with Mr Graham’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Blackpool beat Peterborough United 3-1 in Saturday’s League One game despite manager Fraser Horsfall’s late sending off.

Dale Taylor opened the scoring for the Tangerines just three minutes into the game, and Brandon Kela tied it midway through the first half.

Tom Bloxham gave his team the lead again just four minutes after the break, and Taylor scored his second goal of the afternoon with about eight minutes left in the game.

Blackpool were reduced to 10 points and Horsfall was sent off a minute later, but they managed to hold on to their two-goal lead and take all three points at home.

The win moves Blackpool into 18th place in the League One table, 14 points out of the drop zone.
