Premier League supercomputer predicts Arsenal unlikely to win title after recent defeats

Manchester City’s hopes of winning the Premier League have been given a big boost after Arsenal’s season was threatened with collapse after being shocked by Bournemouth.

Arsenal's loss to Bournemouth has thrown the title race into the spotlight.

Arsenal’s loss to Bournemouth has thrown the title race into the spotlight.

A supercomputer has instructed Manchester City to narrowly win the Premier League title, just hours after Arsenal lost and paved the way for their rivals.

The Gunners have been in the lead in the title race for much of the season and even after wobbling in the domestic cup competition they held a nine-point lead over the weekend but missed the chance to extend that to 12 points. Instead, they were defeated by Bournemouth, their fifth defeat of the season.

City will be watching as their hopes of winning their fifth title, their first in six years, skyrocket. And the algorithm predicted that the title would end up in Manchester rather than north London.

It would be a huge blow for Mikel Arteta, who has finished second in each of the last three years. In 2023 and 2024, they led until the end of the business, only to blunder and watch City overtake them.

Guardiola’s side are expected to end up with 81 points, one place ahead of Arsenal. Surprisingly, the supercomputer doesn’t think City will beat the Gunners next weekend, but it does think Arsenal will draw four of their last six games.

That would mean they would drop eight points, but City won six of their remaining eight games, contributing to another title win. This will be Guardiola’s seventh game since taking over as England manager 10 years ago.

The battle for Champions League qualification and survival is also a major subplot that still needs to be developed. According to FindSisterSites, Manchester United will move into third place after a mid-season resurgence and are likely to finish, while Aston Villa will finish fourth and return to the Champions League.

Liverpool and Chelsea are battling for fifth place, with the Blues potentially clinching the all-important final Champions League spot. The Merseysiders have dropped significantly from last season’s championship year, finishing sixth, and Arne Slott could be in contention for the job.

At the other end of the table, Tottenham’s previous Premier League presence is seeing its days in the top flight come to an end. They hadn’t been relegated since the 1970s, but despite a change of manager, Roberto de Zerbi was unable to save them and they missed out on remaining by three points.

With just five points from seven games remaining, Leeds finished in 17th place, ahead of Nottingham Forest and West Ham, who had nine points from six games to avoid a drop in the table.

Elsewhere, Newcastle had a disappointing season, finishing in 13th place, below arch-rivals Sunderland. Brighton also had a great year, finishing seventh and missing out on Champions League qualification by one point.
