Rio Ngmoja shines for Liverpool and grabs the headlines again
Liverpool overcame a difficult week and missed the game against Fulham in order to put some light between them and a team chasing Champions League qualification.
Rio Ngmoja took center stage, with the teenager once again justifying his playing time by scoring the opening goal. The winger curled the ball from the left side past Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno for a stunning finish.
Mohamed Salah scored his first Premier League goal in over a month, earning another round of applause from Anfield. His struggles are well known, but he did his best not to show them to his younger teammates.
The visiting team were not without chances and were in a good position when the game was still goalless, but they were unable to convert them. Oskar Bobb forced Giorgi Mamadashvili into a superb save, but the hosts quickly took the lead with a quick-fire double before the break.
The match took place against the backdrop of protests in the Kop. Disgruntled home fans created a long banner reading “No ticket price increase”. This was followed by applause from all over Anfield and chants of praise for Liverpool’s owners.

The home team laid the foundations in the first half and although they created chances, they were unable to extend their lead. Fulham looked for a grandstand finish, but Emile Smith Rowe’s shot just missed the target.

Rio’s momentum is unstoppable
From Ngmoha’s stoppage-time goal against Newcastle, to his impressive performance against Wolves in the FA Cup, and now his impressive performance against Fulham. This teenager is becoming impossible to ignore and continues to put on performance after performance every chance he gets.
There is a wealth of attacking talent at Anfield, so a number of big-name and expensive players would have to be overlooked before naming Ngumoha as a starter. But reputation aside, there is no doubt that the 17-year-old is the player to come, and if Liverpool are to give Ngmoha more minutes than he deserves, they will be sidelining some big-name players.

Considering the Reds suffered a crushing defeat to Manchester City a week ago and lost to PSG in midweek, the game against a rising Fulham had all the hallmarks of Saturday night and could have gone very badly.
Mo Salah is back in goal after a difficult week
The west London side had impressed and posed a threat for much of Silva’s tenure, but when the Reds went into half-time with a two-goal lead, they were in an ideal position to grab the much-needed three points. This form has raised serious doubts about Slott’s future, and he could well face an inquest in the summer, but he could be in control of his own destiny by finishing in the Champions League, and he intends to do so.
Salah is back in goal
There were concerns that Salah’s farewell tour would be a nightmare, especially if he spent more time on the bench than on the pitch. Despite his departure being confirmed and his form never being suitable for a regular role, his absence continues to make headlines.
The Egyptian was left on the bench all night in Paris in midweek as Liverpool suffered a heavy defeat. So, being able to resume his role in the starting XI, combined with Salah’s trademark goal, made for a good night’s work. The forward’s left-footed strike home is the type of goal he has seen many times during his time on Merseyside.
Fulham are one of the teams chasing Europe but were unable to improve their chances at Anfield.
Europe’s promising players lining up
Fulham left Anfield scoreless but remain just four points behind sixth-placed Chelsea, enough to qualify for the Europa League. Fulham are languishing in 11th place, highlighting how many clubs are waiting for a mistake from the top.
Bournemouth and Brentford, who beat Arsenal at lunchtime on Saturday, are among the teams looking to impress and claim a spot in Europe. Everton are also waiting on the wings and could end a sensational debut season at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium. But it’s all contingent on either Liverpool or Chelsea escaping. The latter will face Manchester City on Sunday, although the Reds have assured that they will not open the door.

In the week he announced his departure, the Scottish left-back proved that father time won’t stop him any time soon. Andy Robertson has been a mainstay at Anfield for years, but his role has only diminished this season following several new arrivals.
Robertson has remained the consummate professional, turning down a transfer in January and making little noise over his obvious displeasure. Still, every time he’s called upon, he doesn’t seem to miss a beat, and that was the case again Saturday. He may not have been a regular, but every time Robertson plays, you wonder if he’ll be gone.
