Liverpool supporters are set to protest ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Fulham at Anfield after the club announced plans to increase ticket prices.

Liverpool chief executive Billy Hogan has written to all of the club’s season ticket holders and members in a last ditch effort to quell the protests ahead of Saturday’s home game against Fulham. This comes after Liverpool announced last month that ticket prices would be increased in line with inflation for the next three seasons.
Supporters’ union Spirit of Shankly then launched a campaign called “Not a Pound on the Ground”, urging fans to spend their money at local businesses rather than at Anfield for the game against Fulham. On Thursday, fan group Spion Kop 1906 confirmed that flags and banners would be removed from the Kop End for “the remaining matches”.
Hogan has now issued a plea to supporters, further emphasizing the club’s position. In a letter, the CEO of Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group said: “Liverpool Football Club fully respects supporters’ right to protest and recognizes supporters who disagree with this approach.
“But we will be asking one question in the coming days and weeks, and that is that any protests, any discussions, are based on facts: what is changing, why is it changing, and what does that mean in practice?”

Hogan added: “Match day operating costs at Anfield have increased significantly in recent years, increasing by 85% including Anfield Road (57% excluding Anfield Road) over the past 10 years, with utility costs increasing by 107% over the past four years and business rates increasing by 286% over the same period.”
The American went on to explain that the 3% increase means adult general admission season ticket holders will pay an extra £1.13 to £1.42 per game next season. Mr Hogan said current projections were for the price of an adult general admission match ticket to rise by between £3 and £4.50 over three years.
He also defended Liverpool’s pricing compared to their Premier League rivals, adding: “We have frozen general admission season ticket prices in eight of the last 10 seasons. The lowest price for a Kop match ticket today is still the same as it was 15 years ago, despite cumulative inflation across the UK economy of around 45% over that period.”

“We also operate in a league where other clubs have increased their prices at a significantly higher rate over the past 10 years. Since the 2016/17 season, our top six competitors have increased their ticket prices by an average of 17%, and we have increased our prices by 4% over the same period.”
“Nothing has been decided beyond this three-year approach and we intend to continue to engage meaningfully with our Supporters Board in the meantime.”
His letter has faced intense backlash from supporters. “Talk about not reading the atmosphere,” one fan wrote to X, while another added: “Great own goal, Billy.”
Another supporter remained adamant, saying: “After reading my email and understanding the increased costs, I am still not going to support a single pound of ground and further protests. I urge LFC to properly engage with fan groups! Unity is strength. Inwa!”
The atmosphere at Anfield is not reflected in Liverpool’s performance on the pitch. Arne Slott’s side have lost four of their last six games and won just once and must overturn a two-goal deficit in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg.
