With the departures of Andy Robertson and Mo Salah in the summer, Liverpool will lose two experienced members of their squad, and there has been much speculation about Arne Slott’s future.

Arne Slott has shed light on Liverpool’s summer transfer plans, suggesting they are not going anywhere. Slott, 47, is under more pressure than ever, having lost four of his last six matches and won just one.

A large section of Liverpool’s fan base wants him sacked now or at the end of the season, but either way it will be a summer of change. Andy Robertson announced on Thursday that he will succeed Mo Salah and leave the club in June.

The pair, aged 32 and 33 respectively, are two of the most experienced players in the slot and have been instrumental in Liverpool’s most successful period in the modern era. With the departure of Robertson and Salah, Wataru Endo, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are the only players over the age of 28 in Slot’s squad.

Some fans have called for Liverpool to deviate from their policy of signing young players with high resale value to compensate for the loss of experience. But Slott says the club’s owner, Fenway Sports Group, has no intention of changing its policy.

“Our model is absolutely clear,” the Reds manager declared. “That doesn’t mean we can’t make an exception because the club signed Wataru Endo and maybe Federico Chiesa was a little older than we normally sign.

“If this club is as successful as we are, I don’t think we’re going to completely change our model after a not-so-great season, especially because they haven’t won the league 16 times in the 16 years we’ve been here.

“There have been more seasons where the results haven’t been what we expected, but we’ve always stuck to the model that I signed up for, the model that (sporting director) Richard (Hughes) signed up for, and the model that we all stuck to.

“As I’ve said many times, I feel a lot of support from the owners, Richard and (FSG chief football executive) Michael (Edwards),” Slott said at the start of the press conference.

However, Slott will need to turn his team’s dire situation around to ensure they retain supporters heading into the summer. Liverpool are six points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa ahead of their game against Fulham on Saturday, after fans protested plans to increase ticket prices.

The Premier League officially has five Champions League spots available, but fifth place would be an underwhelming and unsettling result. The Reds are still in Europe this season.

After losing 2-0 away to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-final first leg, they need another famous night at Anfield to reach the last four. Next Sunday, they will play away to Everton in the Merseyside derby.
