A Nottingham Forest supporter has tragically passed away after the Europa League quarter-final match against FC Porto. Vitor Pereira’s side faced Portugal at the Estadio do Dragao on Thursday night. The supporter is reportedly 84 years old and a British national.

According to Portuguese media, an alarm was sounded just after midnight and despite attempts to resuscitate the man, he was pronounced dead in General Humberto Delgado Square in central Porto. The supporter appears to have died of natural causes, and there is no suggestion that he was involved in any crime.

The body was removed by Porto’s volunteer fire brigade and taken to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Medicine in Porto, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

The relevant authorities will also notify the British consulate of the death.

Forest secured a 1-1 draw and return to the East Midlands for next week’s second leg at the City Ground. Both goals came in the first half, with the hosts equalizing the score for their opponents.

“In my opinion, it was a good result,” said Pereira, who made nine changes to his starting XI ahead of Sunday’s crucial Premier League game against Aston Villa.

“We need everyone to play for two tournaments. The players who started today did a good job.

“In the end, the score is 1-1 and the match will be played at home to determine the qualification spot. Porto is a strong team as they play at home.”

“They have momentum because of the supporters. Together with Forest we are trying to balance the two competitions. That was very clear, we played with nine different players until the last game.”

“I think we did well. The players tried everything. 1-1 was a good result and we will play at home and see what we can do.”
