Former Manchester United star Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has landed a new job despite claiming in a social media post last year that women were “eradicating masculinity”. Chicharito faced a lot of backlash for this comment, and the Mexican player came out and apologized for the offense he caused.
Although Chicharito has not officially retired from football, he has yet to sign a new contract with any club since his contract with Guadalajara expired last year. But ahead of what will be the striker’s home World Cup, Chicharito has taken on a new job as a pundit.
The 37-year-old will join the FOX Sports pundit team in the US, with the broadcaster posting: “Bienvenido, Javier Hernandez! Mexico’s all-time leading scorer, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, joins the FOX Sports broadcast team for the biggest FIFA World Cup in history.”
He joins a star-studded list of names on FOX Sports’ team of pundits, with the likes of Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic already announced. However, the decision has sparked backlash from fans who are still unhappy with his recent comments about women.
@adrianarissta wrote of X: “Do they need an audience or not? Decide.”
@capi_abril added: “Thank you for your attention and for not watching the game on Fox.”
@Lalo_thr said: “Are we going to give this guy a live mic in 2026?”
In a series of posts in July last year, the former Red Devils ace said: “Ladies, you are failing. You are eradicating masculinity and sensitizing society. Don’t be afraid to be a woman and allow yourself to be led by men.”
Similarly, “You want a man to provide for you, but for you cleaning is patriarchal oppression…Interesting.”
Chicharito was fined by the Mexican Football Federation for his comments, and striker Chicharito made his stance clear: “I sincerely thank everyone who has supported me, shared my point of view with respect, and pushed me to become a better person.
“As a father, a man, and a member of this community, my priorities are to act with respect, humility, and responsibility. I listen, reflect, and strive to express myself more clearly and sensitively, especially on such a sensitive topic.”
