Arne Slott treats Mo Salah with complete disdain – and it seems to be personal

Liverpool lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, but an interesting subplot that emerged from the defeat in France was Arne Slott’s disdain for outgoing club legend Mo Salah.

A long goodbye wasn’t supposed to go like this.

Mo Salah’s impending departure from Liverpool deserves an outpouring of gratitude and respect. It’s a fitting tribute to Salah’s contribution to English football at the end of an intense decade on these shores.

Salah is one of the greatest footballers of his generation. A man who deserves to be classified as a true legend in Liverpool’s long and storied history. He has also been compared to the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard.

But one person who doesn’t seem to buy into the legacy Salah is trying to leave behind is current manager Arne Slott. Nothing was more proof of this than what happened in the French capital on Wednesday night.

Paris Saint-Germain spent most of the night wiping the floor with slot flops, but didn’t receive his full reward. However, Slott was not satisfied with leaving Salah out of the starting lineup and began to ignore the Egyptian completely.

At that moment, Liverpool were losing 2-0, couldn’t get a single shot on target, and needed a goal from a place unlike any other. In other words, Slott delivered a sub to Salah that seemed personal.

To describe Slott’s decision-making as strange would be an understatement. This hints at the fact that Slott has not forgiven Salah for throwing him under the bus earlier this season.

But by being vulgar but blissfully ignorant, all Mr. Slott accomplishes is undermine his own standing as a manager. This is hard to believe considering the thin ice he is currently walking on.

Salah deserves more recognition than this. But instead, he is now the most high-profile victim of Slott’s utter disdain.

And from a neutral point of view, the most important emotion is one of great sadness.

Salah has sprinkled stardust on English football. He helped make Liverpool great again and did so with an attitude that other footballers should aspire to emulate. But he now found himself thrown aside like trash. Slots don’t want to litter the place.

His influence and accomplishments are priceless.

Salah will leave Anfield in a few weeks. And we will miss him for the England game. But who will miss Slott when he’s gone?

And when this happens and you want someone to blame, Slott doesn’t have to look at himself.
