Manchester United plan to revamp their midfield this summer, with Juventus thought to be eyeing Manuel Ugarte, who has fallen out of favor at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are set to part ways with Manuel Ugarte this summer, while Juventus are in the shadows after tracking the Uruguayan star since his days at Sporting Lisbon.

Ugarte, 24, was signed at the end of the 2024 summer transfer window to strengthen United’s engine room, but failed to ignite the fire at Old Trafford. And Ugarte has started just seven games in the Premier League this season, and it seems likely that he will follow Casemiro in leaving the club at the end of the season as part of a further overhaul of the midfield.

United are eyeing the likes of Elliott Anderson and Sandro Tonali in the summer transfer window, according to Corriere dello Sport, and according to Corriere dello Sport they are willing to sell Ugarte for a small loss of £35m, which could open the door for Juventus.

The Italian giants have long admired Ugarte and believe they can secure pole position and land him if they qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester United are said to have paid PSG an initial fee of £42.1m as part of a package to bring Ugarte to Old Trafford just under two years ago, which could have given the French champions a fee of more than £50m if all additional conditions were met.

Funding will be on the agenda for United, whether they qualify for the Champions League and inherit the riches and access to Europe’s top competition.

Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hjølund are expected to complete their moves permanently after joining Barcelona and Napoli on loan last year, but Casemiro has already announced his departure. Other fringe players like Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana, who were also on loan, are also likely to be available.

Midfield will be a top priority for the club, which has undergone some resurgence under Michael Carrick’s leadership. Carrick is positioning himself as a true candidate to remain as the team’s head coach long-term.

As well as signing the likes of Anderson and Tonali, United are always on the lookout for targets that come at a more reasonable transfer fee, such as Southampton’s estimated £20m Shay Charles. With Casemiro and Ugarte both likely to leave, signing at least two midfield players could be on the table.

United are also poised to move away from the back three shape favored during Ruben Amorim’s tenure and enter the market for a left-sided attacker.
