An air ambulance was rushed to the Select Car Lease Stadium to deal with a medical incident ahead of Monday’s match between Reading and Lincoln City. The match for promotion to the Championship for the Visitor Seals is scheduled to start at 3pm today. However, a medical emergency occurred just hours before kick-off, requiring emergency response.
In a statement, Reading said: “The air ambulance is currently on duty to deal with a medical incident at the stadium. Today’s match is not affected. Further updates will be provided in due course.”
A subsequent update read: “An air ambulance has departed the stadium and all car parks have reopened. There is traffic congestion in the area and it will be busier than usual. Thank you for your patience.”
Reading are expecting their biggest crowd so far this season for the match, with both teams battling for promotion from League One.
The hosts currently sit sixth in the table and will be hoping to secure a play-off spot between now and the end of the campaign.
Lincoln, on the other hand, have been dominant for much of the season and are now on the brink of historic promotion to the Championship.
A draw at the Select Kerr Lease Stadium would seal the deal and ensure they will play in the second tier next season for the first time since 1961.
Lincoln were on the brink of glory on Friday as Ryan Wang scored a late winning goal against Wimbledon as they prepared for a promotion party on Easter Monday.
Speaking ahead of the game against Reading, manager Michael Skbala said: “It’s not for me to dream. It’s for the fans. For me it’s about staying focused.”
“Keep the group focused, keep the staff focused. That’s who we are. We’re humble, we’re hardworking, and it sounds great, but to be honest, we just want to win the next game.”
Asked about Lincoln’s prospects for victory, Skbala added: “It’s another big club, big resources, a former Premier League club. It’s not a small club, it’s a big club. We like to play against big clubs, we like to play against big teams while being ourselves.”
“It’s going to be a really tough game, but I thought today showed how difficult it is to win a football game at this level and go on a 23-game undefeated streak as you say. Is it now 18 wins or 17?”
“It was great, but we want to keep going. We want to keep pushing. We want to keep going until the end.”
