Dominik Szoboszlai has been branded “arrogant” after shouting abuse at away Liverpool fans following the humiliating 4-0 defeat to Manchester City. Despite a bright start, Arne Slott’s side were thrashed at the Etihad Stadium, resulting in them being eliminated from the FA Cup.
Liverpool allocated 8,000 supporters for the quarter-final, but most had left by full-time. City were already four goals behind by the hour mark thanks to Erling Haaland’s hat-trick, but Mo Salah’s late penalty save made the Reds’ day even worse.
Szoboszlai and his teammates trudged to the few hundred remaining fans after the final whistle, but he didn’t seem impressed by the criticism they were receiving. The Hungarian tried to cheer up Liverpool’s loyal supporters after they had to suffer another embarrassing defeat in a disastrous season.
After shrugging his shoulders repeatedly, Szoboszlai stopped clapping and waved his arms. The 25-year-old didn’t seem to get the reaction he was hoping for and had to be pulled away by Federico Chiesa.

A video of Szoboszlai’s actions gained attention on social media, but fans are not happy. One supporter fumed: “These players have worked so hard all week and have no idea how much it costs to go to all these games while the vast majority of fans spend the majority of their working-class salaries to watch this game? And these billionaire players have the guts to ask for more support?”
A second added: “Fuck these arrogant players. How can they be prepared to kick out fans who have paid to travel?” A third wrote on X: “Traveling fans pay their salaries, applaud and go down the tunnel. Theater doesn’t do well with supporters.”

After the rant, Szoboszlai spoke to TNT Sports and criticized his teammates for not showing enough “fighting spirit.” “We weren’t mentally strong enough,” added the midfielder.
“To be honest, none of us were there to give as much as we could. It’s a tough time, but we have to stick together. We have another chance on Wednesday, but we have to understand that this is not the season we want to end.”
Liverpool face Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday for the Champions League quarter-final first leg. Next Saturday, the Reds host Fulham.
