Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Harry Kane will miss Saturday’s game against Freiburg, saying he is doubtful to play against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Kane, 32, was rested for England’s 1-1 draw with Uruguay but injured his ankle in training and was ruled out of England’s 1-0 home defeat to Japan on Tuesday.

The striker has not recovered in time for Bayern’s trip to Freiburg and faces a race against time to see if he will be fit for next week’s quarter-final first leg. “Harry was training well until Sunday, but then while playing with the national team he felt something in his ankle,” Kompany told a press conference on Friday.

“It will affect tomorrow’s game and he will not be available. Still, I am positive about Tuesday. Of course it is not an ideal situation. I would have liked to have played against Freiburg, but given the current situation it will not be possible.”

Bayern are nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table but will be keen to have Kane available for the visit to Madrid. The former Tottenham star scored an incredible 53 goals in 45 appearances for club and country this season, helping Bayern become one of the favorites to win the Champions League.

In the match against Japan, the Three Lions’ attack was lackluster and Kane’s absence was felt. Bayern are hoping to avoid the same problem and have named Nicholas Jackson, on loan from Chelsea, as his replacement.

However, as England manager Thomas Tuchel admitted after the game, there will be no “second Kane.” “Bayern Munich without Harry Kane doesn’t have the same threat. No team in the world has the same threat. That’s normal,” Tuchel said.

“If a top team depends on a top player and a top country depends on a top player, that’s quite normal. With Harry leaving, we not only lost him as a player, we lost him as a person. It’s always a bit confusing when a captain walks out of his last training session after 15 minutes and is out of the team.”

“We can win games without Harry, we can win without Harry, and we have won without Harry. “It’s easier to win games without Harry… Against Uruguay, we changed the system and played with No. 9.

“Today I played with Phil Foden and then I played with Dom Solanke. But I’m not looking for a second Harry Kane. There’s no second Harry Kane.”
