Tottenham’s new manager Roberto De Zerbi has vowed to take charge of Spurs next season “no matter what”. De Zerbi, 46, has penned a five-year contract in north London but cannot afford to waste any time.
Tottenham are one point clear of the relegation zone with seven games remaining, which explains why the former Brighton manager has become his third manager this season. Spurs recently parted ways with Igor Tudor, who replaced Thomas Frank in February after just five Premier League games.
Initially, De Zerbi wanted to wait until the summer to take up the job, but was convinced otherwise during negotiations with club executives who made him one of the highest-paid managers in the Premier League. It was thought the Italian would not be interested in managing in the Championship, but his comments in his first interview since Tuesday’s announcement suggested otherwise.
“I believe in the players. I think we must not forget who we are and who the players are, because we have very big players and we have to work on their confidence and their qualities,” said De Zerbi. “It was a big challenge for me to sign a five-year contract because no matter what, I will be the manager of Tottenham next season.”

If Spurs are unable to avoid collapse and end up playing in the second division for the first time in 48 years, those three words will carry weight. De Zerbi’s first game as manager will be away to Sunderland next Sunday, but Tottenham are still worried about winning the Premier League in 2026.
Come kick-off, they could be in the relegation zone. Nevertheless, their new manager is confident of winning enough games to guide them to safety.
De Zerbi added: “I’m very happy to be here.” “I consider Tottenham to be one of the most important clubs in the world, so I’m very happy.
