Liverpool manager Arne Slott is under pressure as his defense of the Premier League title deteriorates rapidly this season, 12 months after winning the title.

Arne Slott maintains support in Liverpool hierarchy despite difficult season

Arne Slott is determined to turn things around at Liverpool and the Anfield bosses are firmly behind the manager. The Dutchman is 12 months away from Liverpool’s 20th Premier League win, his first season on Merseyside.

However, after spending over £400m over the summer window, the Reds were expected to be in fierce competition to win the league again. However, that is not the case, with Liverpool trailing leaders Arsenal by 21 points and facing a battle for a place in next season’s Champions League.

Slott’s team’s performance this term has also been heavily criticized, with the team being loudly booed after their draw with Tottenham at Anfield last month.

This has led to some speculation about Slott’s immediate future, especially if this season ends poorly.

However, The Times reports that Liverpool’s top brass – including the club’s sporting director Richard Hughes and FSG’s head of football Michael Edwards – remain behind the manager and are keen to help him get out of his troubles.

It is understood that it is accepted that a number of factors outside the manager’s control have worked against him this season.

Liverpool spent big on signing Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, but they played less than 90 minutes together all season. Werts has struggled for form in his first season in English football, while Isak broke his foot in December and is racing to be back before the end of the season.

Milos Kerkes and Jeremy Frimpong were also added in the summer, but their potential was not immediately realized.

Goalkeeper Alisson was also sidelined, while Conor Bradley, who was named as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement, also missed most of the season.

The tragic death of Diogo Jota last summer also understandably left a lasting impact on the players.

For all these issues, FSG would like to give Slots time to correct the mistakes of 25/26 and think he will become even stronger for them. Slott himself is confident that he can overcome the recession, and has secretly told friends that he believes he can.

Still, the Slotts need to finish the season strong to maintain fan support and face a crucial month spanning three competitions.

On Saturday, Liverpool will face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Four days later, the first leg will take place against Paris Saint-Germain, who have secured a place in the last eight of the Champions League.

Domestic cup competitions won’t erase all of the league’s struggles, but leading the Reds to a seventh European Cup likely will.

There are then three more Premier League games before the start of May, including a Merseyside derby with Everton, who sit just three points behind them in the league table.
