Manchester United were furious that Amad was denied a penalty in the draw with Bournemouth and lodged an official complaint, but the Premier League committee upheld the referee’s decision.

Manchester United have been told that both the referee and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) were right to reject Amad’s controversial penalty appeal in last month’s draw with Bournemouth.
The Premier League Key Match Incidents (KMI) Committee has ruled on the decision, which left United players and Michael Carrick stunned, and believes those involved were correct.
Amado dropped into the area after Bournemouth’s Adrian Traffert appeared to put his hands on him. Referee Stuart Attwell waved away a penalty appeal, but the visitors’ anger only increased when the Cherries got the better of them at the other end and Ryan Christie scored in the 67th minute.
United’s frustration came to a head as Matheus Cunha was awarded a penalty, which was subsequently converted, for a challenge very similar to the one Amad was receiving. The Red Devils have lodged a formal complaint with the Premier League regarding this decision.
Since then, the KMI panel has voted 3-2 against spot kicks being awarded on the field. It was argued that “Truffat posed a danger, but the contact was not shocking and therefore fell below the foul limit.” However, two panellists said the action was “un-football” and the penalty was the right decision.

Despite these opinions, the KMI panel unanimously supported not involving VAR in the situation, saying it was “in line with the high threshold for overruling VAR”.
United conceded a late penalty, adding to Carrick’s frustration. He told Sky Sports: “I should have given another penalty. Of course, if you get one, you have to get the other. It’s almost the same for me, it’s a two-handed grab. In any case,[the referee]got one wrong, but to give one and not the other is beyond my head. I think it’s crazy. It’s a bit puzzling really.”

“That’s why they scored the goal and then it was chaos, really. They should have given another penalty and the game would have been completely different.”
Bruno Fernandes agreed, saying: “In almost the same situation as Amad, we get a penalty (against us). One is rewarded as a penalty, the other is not. I know it is difficult for the referee to award two penalties in the same game for the same team, but what I don’t understand is why VAR is not involved in that situation.”
“Either one is a penalty and the other is a penalty, or neither is a penalty.”
