Liverpool may have to spend big to sign transfer target Yann Diomande as the RB Leipzig star has no release clause. The forward is attracting attention as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who will retire at the end of this season.
Arne Slott and the club’s transfer officials are currently looking for a replacement, with Diomande firmly in their sights. However, the signing is proving costly as the player’s contract with the club runs until 2030 and there is no release clause.
This leaves the Bundesliga side free to demand a transfer fee they deem appropriate. However, in separate negotiations, Leipzig could be open to selling young central defender Castello Lukeba, who is also on the Reds’ radar.
Liverpool signed Jeremy Jacquet for £60m in January and sent him back to Rennes on loan, but the Frenchman subsequently injured his shoulder and required surgery. If the long-term layoff extends into the beginning of next season, Slott will likely be looking for cover in the form of Rukuba.
Leipzig are reportedly willing to sell Rukuba, but are very reluctant to part ways with Diomande. This season, he has played in 26 Bundesliga games and has 10 goals and 7 assists.
It is also said that Leipzig are looking to sign Diomande to a new contract that will significantly increase his wages. He was originally signed to a rookie contract, but due to his outstanding performance, he is expected to receive a significant raise.
Sky Sports Germany also reported that the club hope to release Benjamin Sesco in the summer of 2027, in the same way they held him for an extra season before selling him to Manchester United.
Salah has seven Premier League games left as a top-flight player, in addition to the upcoming FA Cup and Champions League matches. The club still harbors genuine hopes of winning both of the latter two trophies. The slot side traveled to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on Saturday.
This will be immediately followed by the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain the following Wednesday, and just three days later the Reds will welcome Fulham to Anfield in the Premier League.
