Roberto de Zerbi has reportedly agreed terms with Tottenham to become the next permanent manager. Igor Tudor’s departure was confirmed on Sunday night after the former Brighton and Marseille manager entered into negotiations with the north Londoners over the weekend. He left Marseille earlier this year and is currently an independent player.
Things are progressing quickly behind the scenes, with De Zerbi now appearing to be close to a deal on the dotted line. According to talkSPORT, a five-year deal has been agreed with the Belgian head coach and Monster. Official confirmation of his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is expected to arrive in due course.
It was widely reported last week that Tottenham wanted to secure a permanent manager to replace Tudor rather than appoint another interim manager.
He will be tasked with saving Spurs from the unthinkable of being relegated to the Championship with just seven games left and saving the team from relegation.
They currently sit in 17th place, one point out of the danger zone, but have not won a single Premier League game since the start of the year.
Separate reports from the Guardian suggest that Tottenham are already in talks about the potential make-up of De Zerbi’s backroom staff.
If he manages to stay in the Premier League, there will be no chance of Mauricio Pochettino’s return.
The former Spurs manager is currently managing the U.S. national team and is preparing for their home World Cup appearance this summer.
However, his long-term future is less uncertain, with him recently admitting that he misses the fast-paced and competitive nature of the Premier League.
They said in a statement: “We can confirm that it has been mutually agreed that head coach Igor Tudor will leave the club with immediate effect.”
“Tomislav Rozic and Riccardo Ragnacci have also resigned from their respective positions as goalkeeping coach and physical coach.
“I would like to thank Igor, Tomislav and Riccardo for their hard work over the past six weeks.
