Marc Cucurella was one of the first players BlueCo signed after they took over Chelsea in 2022, but his comments during the international break have cast doubt on his future.
Manager Marc Cucurella has hinted that he could follow in the footsteps of Enzo Fernandes and leave Chelsea in the near future. Cucurella, 27, is enjoying his fourth season at Stamford Bridge after leaving Brighton in August 2022 in a deal worth £63m.
However, the left-back revealed he is “always” considering a return to La Liga and admitted he could be tempted to return to his boyhood club Barcelona. “I’m always thinking about going back. I’m very happy here, and so is my family. I’m planning to leave London for a few years from now,” Cucurella explained ahead of Spain’s friendly against Egypt on Tuesday.
But when asked what he would do if Barça came calling, the Chelsea star admitted: “It would be difficult to say no. It’s not just about me. I’d have to think about my family as well. If it happens, then it will happen and we’ll see what decision is made.”
His comments came after teammate Fernandes revealed he would assess his future after the World Cup. The Argentine player is rumored to be moving to Real Madrid.

Asked by ESPN Argentina if he would still be a Blues player next season, Fernandes replied: “I don’t know. Right now I’m focused here. After that there’s the World Cup and we’ll see.”
The intrigue deepened this week when the 25-year-old declared on his YouTube channel Avilales: “I want to live in Spain. I love Madrid. It reminds me of Buenos Aires. Players live wherever they want. I’d live in Madrid. I can get by with English, but I’m more comfortable speaking Spanish.”
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior addressed Fernandes’ initial comments before the team’s final game before the international break. “I had a long talk with Enzo this morning before practice, not only about his comments, but also about his feelings and how we can improve as a team,” Rosenior said.

“He is one of the captains of the club and I would say he has made it very clear how happy he is to be at this club, how much he wants to win and how passionate he is about our success.”
“He also said that things get misinterpreted in translation and in emotion. For me, he is fully committed to winning with this group and this football club.”
Chelsea return to action this Saturday when they face League One side Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
