Casemiro revealed his wife cried when Manchester United supporters begged him to stay at Old Trafford for another season. This was based on his contract with United, and the terms of his contract had come to an end. The 34-year-old Brazilian is ready to leave the Red Devils when his contract expires this summer. He joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 for a fee of up to £70m and has spent the past four years in Manchester, making over 150 appearances and winning two major honours.
Casemiro has been one of United’s most reliable performers this season. The former Porto star has missed just two games for the Reds all season but has forged a strong partnership with Coby Mainu since Michael Carrick took over in mid-January as he looks to help the club secure a top-four position.
And during United’s final home game, a 3-1 win over Aston Villa, fans chanted “Casemiro, another year, Casemiro” after the Reds broke the deadlock. The midfielder headed home from a Bruno Fernandes corner and celebrated in front of the North West corner.
Afterwards, Casemiro’s wife, Anna Mariana, burst into tears. “Well, I honestly feel very happy, especially with the love from the fans and the respect they have for me,” Casemiro said.
“So I’m just grateful for this love and it’s very exciting. I hope I don’t cry on the last day because it’s such an amazing experience. The other day, when the fans were pleading with me to keep it going another year, my wife was already crying.
“So I just want to have fun, enjoy every moment and I’ll remain a United fan for the rest of my life.”
Casemiro had a clause in his contract with United that would trigger a one-year extension if he started 35 Premier League games in his final season at the club, a figure he continues to aim to achieve.
However, Casemiro and the club reached a mutual agreement in January to waive this clause in negotiations to formalize his departure from United at the end of the 2025/26 season.
He was informed by United officials at the start of the season that his contract would not be renewed, but requested that the announcement be made public in early 2026, and United formally agreed.
Casemiro has seven games remaining in a United shirt, starting with the Premier League game against Leeds United on Monday 13th April.
