Bernardo Silva’s contract with Manchester City is nearing the end of his contract, with speculation surrounding his future simmering throughout the 2025-26 season.
Bernardo Silva has reportedly informed Manchester City that he will leave the club at the end of the season. Silva, 31, is expected to sign with a new club on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.
The Portuguese has been at the Etihad since the summer of 2017, making him City’s third longest-serving player after John Stones and Phil Foden. Silva lifted his first trophy as captain earlier this month when Josep Guardiola’s side achieved an impressive 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.
The former Monaco star, who has been rested by the Portuguese national team due to the ongoing international break, has used the time to make a decision on his high-profile future. Multiple media outlets across Europe have reported that Silva has informed City leaders that he does not want to be offered a new contract.
The 31-year-old’s priority is to remain in Europe, with Barcelona and Juventus leading the race to sign him. In addition to Turkish giants Galatasaray, clubs from Major League Soccer and the Saudi Professional League have also expressed interest.

Silva spent nine glorious years at City, winning six Premier League titles. City need to chase down Arsenal’s nine-goal lead, but could score seven in May. The teams will face each other at the Etihad on April 19, but Guardiola’s side have a home game against Crystal Palace, which is not scheduled.
Silva is known to be a Paris Saint-Germain fan and has had opportunities to leave City over the years. But Guardiola always thought highly of him.
In November, the City manager was asked where Silva ranked among the best players he had ever coached, to which Guardiola replied: “Top, high. One of the best players. He can do anything.”

“He didn’t score that many goals or be involved in all the assists. He’s never done that, but he gave us a lot of things that weren’t in the stats and were incredibly valuable to us. He’s definitely one of the best players I’ve ever trained.”
City return to action on Saturday when they host Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals for an exciting encounter. They will then visit Chelsea to resume their pursuit of the Premier League title.
