Bayern Munich honorary chairman Uli Hoeness has claimed Harry Kane is worth more than £200m in a bid to deter potential suitors. Kane has been in exceptional form for Bayern this season, scoring 48 goals in 40 appearances, and has attracted interest from rival clubs. The England captain has been linked with Barcelona as well as the Saudi Professional League side, and was previously linked with Manchester United.
Kane’s existing contract is scheduled to run until June 2027. His release clause was reduced to a modest £57m in January as he moved into the final 18 months of his contract. However, for that transfer to materialize this summer, Kane would have had to notify Bayern of his desire to leave by the end of January. The 32-year-old has chosen not to do so and Hoeneß insists the status quo will remain the same.
“(Kane) did not exercise his release clause, which means he is definitely under contract here until the summer of 2027,” he told Kicker.
“What I’m hearing and feeling is that he and his family feel very comfortable here. You never know when the Saudis are going to show up and throw a lot of money, but he feels very at home.”
Hoeness continued: “I think Harry Kane is worth €150m (£130m). But you see Alexander Isak is worth €150m to Liverpool. If Isak is worth €150m, Harry is worth €250m (£217m).”
This suggests United or any other club would need to break through a world record transfer fee to sign Kane this summer.
The current record was set in the summer of 2017 when Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona in a deal worth £200m.
Kane has been an outstanding player in front of goal, scoring 133 goals in just 136 games since joining Bayern from Tottenham in 2023.
He has repeatedly spoken of his happiness in Bavaria and recently dismissed suggestions from Barcelona presidential candidates that he was in talks about a move to La Liga.
“I haven’t heard anything about that,” Kane said. “My father and brother are doing everything, but they haven’t told me anything.
“As I’ve already said, I’m very happy here at Bayern. I’m focused on this season and my time at Bayern. I take that as a compliment.”
Bayern are keen to secure a further contract for Kane, which could earn him £400,000 a week. On the surface, the club is projecting calm confidence on the matter.
“He still has a year and a half left on his contract,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said recently. “He feels very comfortable here. We are not stressed about it.
“He should stay as he is and continue to feel comfortable with his family in Munich. That way he can stay in Munich for a long time.”
